Investing in the future of Soul Boardwalk
A significant program of improvement works is underway at Soul Boardwalk as we continue to invest in the long-term future of one of Surfers Paradise’s premier retail and dining destinations.
Soul Boardwalk occupies a unique position in the heart of Surfers Paradise, bringing together beachfront dining, retail and entertainment in one of the Gold Coast’s most recognised locations.
Maintaining a major coastal property requires continued investment. That is why a staged program of capital works is now underway across Soul Boardwalk, including major upgrades to the property’s lifts and escalators and a comprehensive program of structural steel renewal and maintenance.
The works represent an important investment in the future of Soul Boardwalk; improving the reliability and longevity of key building infrastructure while ensuring the precinct continues to provide a high-quality environment for our retailers, restaurants and visitors.
Upgrading our lifts and escalators
A major program to upgrade Soul Boardwalk’s vertical transport infrastructure is currently underway.
The works are spread across two stages to avoid disruptions during the festive season. The first stage includes works to Escalators to Vapiano, Goods Lift to Vapiano and Passenger Lift to Hurricanes, Seascape and Brazilian Flame. Further works to the balance of the lifts and escalators are planned from early 2027.
These are substantial infrastructure upgrades designed to improve the long-term reliability and performance of the equipment that helps thousands of people move around Soul Boardwalk.
Because the works need to be undertaken progressively, individual lifts and escalators will be temporarily unavailable at different times. Directional signage will be installed throughout the precinct to help visitors navigate around the affected areas.
Protecting Soul Boardwalk for the future
At the same time, Soul Boardwalk has commenced a staged structural steel renewal and maintenance program across the property.
The current phase focuses on areas of the South Pod, including the awning and water chiller balcony. The works involve detailed inspections, treatment and repair of existing steelwork, replacement of elements where required, new protective coatings and the subsequent reinstatement of façade and glazing elements.
The current construction program is scheduled to continue through to December 2026, with works being carefully sequenced through different areas.
This forms part of a broader multi-year program. The longer-term strategy prioritises works according to engineering advice, groups projects geographically to improve efficiency and minimise disruption, and allows the program to be reviewed as updated condition information becomes available.
Keeping Soul open while we improve
Considerable planning has gone into staging these projects so Soul Boardwalk can continue operating while the improvements are completed.
Visitors may notice temporary hoardings, construction zones, changes to pedestrian routes, periods of construction noise and some lifts or escalators being unavailable. Work zones for the structural program are being localised specifically to minimise impacts to public thoroughfares and access.
Our shops, restaurants and businesses continue to welcome visitors throughout the works, and we encourage everyone to continue supporting the great operators that make Soul Boardwalk such an important part of the Surfers Paradise experience.
Building the next chapter of Soul
These projects are about more than maintaining a building. They are part of an ongoing commitment to reinvest in Soul Boardwalk and ensure this landmark beachfront destination continues to perform at the standard expected of its location.
We appreciate that major improvement works can create some temporary inconvenience and thank our retailers, residents, visitors and the wider Surfers Paradise community for their patience while the program is completed.
The result will be stronger, more reliable infrastructure and a better-positioned Soul Boardwalk for many years to come.
